Transformer repair turns fatal as electric shock claims life of employee

Jammu, Jan 11: An outsourced electricity department employee lost his life after suffering a fatal electric shock while carrying out repair work on a transformer in Kathar village of Bishnah area in Jammu district on Sunday, officials said.

The incident occurred when the worker was engaged in routine maintenance of a power transformer in the village. During the repair process, he came into contact with a live electric line, resulting in severe burns. Locals present at the site rushed to help and immediately informed the authorities, but the victim succumbed to his injuries.

The deceased has been identified as Fateh Chand, son of Jagar Singh, an inhabitant of Chak Shibu area. Officials said Fateh Chand was working as an outsourced employee with the power department and had been assigned transformer repair duties in the area.

Police reached the spot soon after the incident and initiated legal formalities. The body was shifted for medico-legal procedures, and further investigation has been taken up to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the electrocution. Officials are also examining whether standard safety protocols were followed at the work site.

Officials said the matter has been reported to higher authorities, and necessary action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation. [KNT]
