Srinagar: Hundreds of delegates and representatives of different organizations of temporary workers, government employees participated in daylong convention organized by Trade union coordination centre (TUCC) under the leadership of Syed Ghulam Rasool Geelani National Secretary, president TUCC (J&K) – who is also President, J&K employees Joint Action Committee – to mark the International Workers Day (May Day), here in summer capital Srinagar.
The speakers, on the eve highlighted the issues of the working force and also raised slogans in favour of their demands.
Labour Commissioner J&K, Abdul Rashid War was the Guest of honor in the convention who endorsed the demands and issues highlighted in the convention by the representatives of the workers.
War assured the leadership of TUCC that they will take up these genuine issues and demands at the appropriate forum at Govt. level for their early redressal He further assured the TUCC leadership that I will personally take up these demands before Hon’ble LG Sahib Administration.
While addressing the workers in the convention Syed Gh Rasool Geelani, President TUCC (J&K) and JK –EJAC highlighted the issues of working force working in organized and unorganized sectors especially regularization of all the categories of temporary and contractual workers engaged after 1994 upto 2015 in different Govt. departments and release of their wages as per need based Minimum wages Act and periodical revision of their wages as per variable dearness allowances (VDA) on the basis of Consumer Price Index (CPI) and enhancement of working period of seasonal workers of I&FC department from Five (5) months to eight (8) months in a year and giving them compensation for the cooling off period of Four (4) months.
Geelani also highlighted the issue of CAMPA workers for their inclusion into outsourcing head of non plan. He also highlighted the issue of career progression of the Govt. Employees by way of amending service recruitment rules to create promotional avenues from class IV upto Gazetted cadres and removal of pay – anomalies and holding of DPC meetings to clear all the pending promotions which will play a key role in improving the work culture for the large interest of Public.
TUCC leadership in the convention took pledge for social freedom, political freedom and Economic freedom for the working force and demanded Minimum wage, social security and decent life.
