Srinagar, May 09: A passenger arriving at Srinagar International Airport from Chennai was found carrying cash amounting to nearly ₹15 lakh during checking by the Income Tax Unit on Saturday, officials said.

The passenger, identified as Khurshid Ahmed Khan, had arrived in Srinagar via Delhi. He travelled by flight AI-2832 from Chennai to Delhi and later boarded flight AI-1739 from Delhi to Srinagar, reported news agency Kashmir Dot Com.

Officials said the cash was detected during routine checking at the airport by the Income Tax Unit stationed at Srinagar International Airport.

During questioning, the passenger reportedly informed the authorities that he has been running a handicrafts business in Chennai for the last 40 years.

He further stated that the money was being carried for expenses related to a marriage function in his family.

The cash was subsequently seized by the concerned authorities for verification and further legal formalities.

Officials said the passenger has been directed to appear before the Income Tax Office at Samandar Bagh, Srinagar, on Monday for further proceedings in the matter. (KDC)
