Baramulla (GNS): Residents of Batgran village along the Line of Control in Uri in Baramulla have alleged that the Government Boys Primary School building in the area has remained incomplete for the past 15 years, causing hardships to students and affecting their education.
A local delegation told GNS that the school building was taken up by the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department in 2012 and the construction was carried out up to the lintel level. They said doors and windows were also installed at the time, but the work was abruptly stopped thereafter.
According to the residents, the building has since been lying abandoned and unattended, while the doors and windows have decayed over the years due to lack of maintenance.
They said the incomplete structure has deprived students of proper educational facilities, forcing children to continue their studies in a temporary shed constructed under the Sadbhavana programme.
The villagers said the government had sanctioned funds for construction of the school building in the remote border area with the aim of improving educational infrastructure, but the project has failed to see completion even after more than a decade.
Expressing disappointment over the prolonged delay, the residents said the issue has remained unresolved despite repeated demands from the area.
The locals have appealed to MLA Uri, Director School Education Kashmir, and Deputy Commissioner Baramulla to intervene in the matter and ensure early completion of the school building for the benefit of local students. (GNS)
