Srinagar, Jan 19 (GNS): Police have arrested three persons allegedly involved in illegal trade of LPG gas cylinders near Alstop on Jammu-Srinagar highway in Kulgam district of south Kashmir.

“A Police Party headed by In-charge Police Post Mirbazar while conducting a routine patrolling on highway near Alstop found a truck bearing registration No. JK02A-3295 and a Tata Mobile bearing registration No. JK03G-6760 loaded with LPG Cylinders, where some persons were found breaking the seals of company filled LPG Cylinders and refilling some quantity of gas into empty LPG cylinders illegally,” said a police spokesperson said in a statement to GNS. After filling gas in empty Cylinders, he said, they were resealing the gas cylinders with new seals.

“Subsequently, the Police party swung into action and arrested three persons from the spot”. They have been identified as Reyaz Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Hassan Dar of Chowgam Kulgam, Muneeb Ahmad Shah son of Ghulam Hassan Shah of Sopat Tengpora and Javid Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Rasool Dar of Pinzri Shalteng Srinagar.

“Both the vehicles used in the commission of crime have been seized,” police said, adding, “Preliminary investigation reveals the arrested accused persons were doing this unscrupulous act from quite some time.”

Accordingly, he said, a case (FIR No. 07/2021) under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Qazigund and investigation in the matter has been initiated.

“General public is requested to check the weight of LPG Cylinders before purchasing, in case of any disorder concerned Police Station may be informed, so that immediate action against offenders will be taken.” (GNS)
