Uri, Oct 11: (GNS) The only children park in this border town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district has been occupied by the Roads & Buildings Department (R&B) for the last fifteen years thus barring the movement of children into the park.

According to locals, Army in the year 1991 under the Sadbavna scheme set up children park in the main town in Uri. “The children park was very well maintained with different playing equipment like swings, ladder sliding, see-saw, and other similar equipments were there,” a local Altaf Ahmad Wani told GNS, adding, soon after the 2005 earthquake R&B department dumped construction material in the park and that is yet to be lifted.

He said, “R&B department has done the fencing on the boundaries of the park all around and barred movement of all to the park.”

Another local Javid Ahmad told GNS the Uri administration was not paying any heed to the issue. “They are acting
as mute spectators,” he said.

“We appeal to DC Baramulla, SDM Uri for their intervention and direct R&B department to wind-up their dumped material from the park,” he added.

Executive Engineer R&B special sub-division Uri, Kaiyam-U-Din said that he was not aware of the matter. “I have joined the office recently. I will get it checked,” he said. (GNS)
