Jammu, June 19: Kathua Police in Jammu and Kashmir have disengaged a Special Police Officer (SPO) from service after allegations of involvement in corrupt practices and unauthorized absence from duty surfaced during an internal assessment.
According to an order issued by the District Police Headquarters Kathua, SPO Rishi Sharma (198/SPO), son of Joginder Paul and a resident of Keerian, Kathua, was found, on the basis of inputs received from the District Special Branch, to be allegedly involved in immoral and corrupt practices through which he had amassed significant movable and immovable assets.
The order further states that the SPO was not performing his assigned duties to the satisfaction of supervisory officers and had also remained absent from duty without authorization.
Taking cognizance of the findings, Senior Superintendent of Police Kathua Mohita Sharma ordered the disengagement of the SPO from service with effect from June 12, 2026, the date from which he was marked absent from Outpost Sarla.
The order also declared SPO No. 198/SPO-K vacant and directed the disengaged personnel to immediately deposit all uniform articles as well as arms and ammunition issued to him in the designated police stores and armoury. [KNT]
