Kupwara, Oct 20: Kupwara Police under its civic action programme on Tuesday kickstarted its much-anticipated cricket tournament in this north Kashmir district under the banner of ‘Kupwara Police Premier T-20 Knockout Cricket Tournament 2020’ at Galizoo Sports Stadium.

The jam-packed inauguration ceremony was attended by DIG North Kashmir Mohammad Sulaiman Chaudhary, SSP Kupwara Shriram Ambarkar, Army officers, CRPF officers including several other senior police officers of the district.

The inaugural contest played between two big guns Victoria XI and City Club Kupwara had much in store for the spectators as it ended on a tie, with both teams scoring 164 runs each. However it was City Club Kupwara which held its nerves to triumph over former in the ‘Super Over’ to qualify for the next round.

Speaking on the ocassion, Mohammad Sulaiman Chaudhary appreciated the initiative taken by Kupwara police “with an objective to provide an opportunity to the youth of the district as to exhibit and hone their talent and skills.”

SSP Kupwara, Shriram Ambarkar on the ocassion extended his gratitude towards DIG north Kashmir for attending the inaugural ceremony.

“This will encourage the youth and will go a long way in nurturing the sports activities in the (frontier) district”, the official remarked.
