One Who Laid Arms Was Absconding Since September 25

Srinagar, Oct 26 (GNS): One militant was killed in a gunfight while another surrendered before a joint team of police and army forces in Noorpora area of Tral in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar told GNS that while militant was killed in the initial exchange of firing, the second one who was trapped inside agreed to surrender after hectic persuasion by the police and army.

While the identity of the slain militant was not officially revealed so far, army said that the militant who surrendered is resident of Gulshanpura Pulwama and was missing from September 25.

In a statement to GNS, army’s Srinagar based spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia also said that one Ak-47 was recovered from the encounter site. Last week two newly recruited Al-Badr militants had surrendered in Sopore.

The encounter at Tral had ensued after joint team of Police and army’s 42RR launched a cordon and search operation in Noorpora area.

As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off an gunfight. (GNS)
