Srinagar, Oct 28(GNS): Two Jash-e-Mohammad militants were killed, where as a n army trooper was injured in an overnight gunfight in Mouchwa area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

“On a specific input regarding presence of (militants), a joint cordon and search operation was launched (on October 27) evening by Police, (army’s) 50RR and CRPF in the area,” a police spokesperson said in a statement issued here to GNS.


“During the search operation, as the presence of (militants) got ascertained, they were given opportunity to surrender. However, they fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party, which was retaliated leading to an encounter.”


In the ensuing encounter, he said, two militants were killed. “Due to darkness the operation was suspended, however the whole area was put under strict cordon. In the wee hours, search operation was resumed and bodies of both the killed (militants) were retrieved from the site of encounter.”


One of the slain militants has been identified as Javaid Ahmad Ganie of Pulwama while another, “as per reliable sources has been identified as Khalid alias Ilyas, a Pakistani national.” Both the slain were affiliated with JeM, he said.

The injured army trooper namely Rakesh Tiwari was evacuated to 92 Base hospital for treatment, where his condition is said to be stable.

“Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation.”
The bodies have been be sent to Handwara for burial after completion of all medico-legal formalities.


He said a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and investigation has been initiated. (GNS)
