Kupwara, Mar 2 (GNS): An 8-year-old non-local girl drowned in Nallah Pohru in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Tuesday.
Reports reaching to GNS that the minor was playing on the banks of nallah with other children when she suddenly slipped and drowned.
The minor has been identified as Humara (8) daughter of Shabir Ahmad of Bijnor Uttar Pardesh. The family is temporary putting in Maidan Chogul. Shabiris running a barber shop in the locality.
Soon after the incident a rescue operation was launched to retrieve the body from the river.
A police officer confirmed the incident to GNS said SDRF team along locals swung into action to retrieve the body. He said that the rescue operation is going on and shall continue till 8:30 p.m. “In case the girl was not found, it would be resumed early tomorrow morning.” (GNS)
