June 18: Continuing its sustained efforts against drug trafficking under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, J&K Police achieved significant success in separate anti-narcotics operations conducted in Tral and Ashmuqam areas, resulting in the arrest of one drug peddler and seizure of over 7 kilograms of poppy straw.
In the first operation, a police party of PS Tral, intercepted one individual identified as Mohd Sultan Sofi son of Gh. Nabi Sofi resident of Dadasara, Tral. During search, 1 kilogram and 165 grams of poppy straw was recovered from his possession. Accordingly, FIR No. 76/2026 was registered at Police Station Tral under the relevant sections of law, and investigation into the case has been initiated.
In another operation, Police Station Ashmuqam acted on credible information regarding the alleged concealment of narcotic substances at a residential house in the Ashmuqam area. Based on the information, FIR No. 54/2026 was registered, and investigation was taken up.
During the course of investigation, a search of the premises belonging to Mst. Fatima, daughter of Gh. Hassan Tak and resident of Amad, led to the recovery and seizure of 5.960 kilograms of poppy straw in accordance with legal procedures.
Further investigations in both cases are underway to ascertain the source of the contraband and to identify any forward or backward linkages associated with the illegal narcotics network.
