The present era is known as an era of mass media wherein we see tech-savvy people seeking to convey their messages and abilities to people through various means of communication as to strengthen their emotions, feelings, thoughts, in their own particular style, tact, intellectual endeavour and god given abilities. These people exploit the means available for transmission to establish their individuality in the society and ultimately reach a status where we see them making a huge influence on their ‘followers’. Nowadays there are many sources of communication to introduce us to the work of skilled people especially on social networking websites. Among those many social networking sites’ is Facebook-owned Instagram, a platform where one usually finds an endless list of pages created by people worldover to highlight things they want to. However what one sees is that there are a limited number of such pages which actually have been successful in garnering the attention read fan base of the users of this particular application (app).
Among those limited pages falls one created by a Kashmir-based social media influencer Mohsin Bilal Shah – a 23 year old youth from Srinagar’s Safa Kadal. Shah, a young man, has returned from Mumbai Nasik after completing his graduation in Hotel Management. During an interview Mohsin said that he had started an Instagram page in 2015 by the title “Adorable Faces of Kashmir” (AFK). After over five years of gruelling efforts, the page aimed to highlight artists including singers, writers, models, calligraphers etc. has started getting a great response. It all started with bolstering modelling artists from the valley and was upheld by budding artists like Sania Mir, Rounak, Simran and from many other publicly acknowledged faces. The AFK page has over the time turned a helping hand for the people in need of financial assistance. The AFK group has as on date reached 42.3K followers.According to Shah, his aim is to bring smiles on the faces of artists especially from Kashmir by sharing stories of adorable faces of Kashmir. Shah exhorts youth to work for the overall betterment of themselves and of those dependent on them. He says that he just aims to use his page as a medium to spread the ideas of love, justice, kindness, happiness, peace, confidence and modernity among the people around and says his principle is ‘to act locally but think globally’. He particularly wants the youth of Kashmir to study hard and build a studious approach in every department of life to gain the maximum possible benefits. He has written somewhere that “Trust in religion, Benefit in business, Health in life, Physical pleasure in love affairs, frankness in friendship, hard work in studies and patience in married life are the very basic rules.” Ignoring them will definitely play havoc with anyone’s life, Shah says. Shah has been receiving all sorts of support from his family. I personally wish The AFK family all the best for a bright future and hope the page represents the image of Kashmir in the true sense.
