A plethora of self-help publications have unleashed transformative powers in the lives of countless individuals. However, I stumbled upon a veritable work of art, a true masterpiece that stands out among the already celebrated titles. Its name is “The Untethered Soul,” authored by the eminent Michael A. Singer. In the realm of self-help literature, this time is a rare gem, brimming with groundbreaking concepts. Its pages are imbued with explorations of the soul, the inner self, and the labyrinthine paths of human thought.
This book is a balm for the weary spirit, guiding readers towards the attainment of tranquility, joy, and boundless energy. The essence of the book is that one should take an inward journey and develop a relationship in order to find true self instead of looking outside. To do so, the author argues that you have a mental dialogue going on in our head that never stops. It’s a voice that is continually speaking to you. It’s a roommate dwelling inside your mind that always talks to you, inadvertently retorts you what to do and what not to do. The funny part is that you feel that it is you talking inside as long it is not identified. However that is not the case. Most of your sorrow stems from this inner roommate.
If you’re going to marry someone, it may say “maybe this is not the right person. If you see someone more accomplished than you, it may say you are a failure. If you see someone riding a nice car, it may say you have not achieved anything in your life. This voice brings utter misery into your life and is behind envy and fear. It always generates negative energy. So, to control this voice and to develop a relationship with our true self, you have to tame it and distance yourselves from it and objectively observe it converse. The author also lays stress that the inner room living inside you is never content, it keeps on making you feel that you are not cool enough to go on with your life.
The author also throws light up consciousness. Suppose someone says, “who are you”? You will normally tell your name, residence and profession or you can brief about your hobbies. However, these are mere labels given to you. Whatsoever has happened to you is just an experience and your parents are only an association but the question remains, in the midst of all of this, where am I and who am I. There is a beautiful answer to this question, I’m my consciousness, I’m the one who is aware, I’m the one who sees and this is my identity.
The biggest identity a person has is his consciousness, it is also at times called soul or spirit. If you begin to live your life understanding this concept, you will live a tranquil and blissful life. Then the author goes on to talk about inner energy stating that people have infinite energy but they don’t know how to use it.
When a negative thought flashes in your mind, you put in opposing energy in order to avert it, you exercise all our cognitive processes targeting that negative thought, for this you require a tremendous amount of energy. That’s why at times you feel drained. Recall the time when you fell in love for the first time, you felt all energetic, full of vivacity and strength. It clearly explains that it is all a game of energy. If you are always inspired and brimmed with energy, then every minute of every day becomes an exciting experience. Now the question is how to keep this free flow of energy going all the time. Its way passes by your heart, if you keep your heart open it will lead you to waves of uplifting energy. If you are large hearted, you will attract not only people but also happiness and success towards you. Another key to detach us from mental strings which hold us back is we always live in a state of constant fear inflicting pain on ourselves by saying what people will think of us and our half of life is lived following this pattern. What in fact you should do is to start with a problem solving approach and commit to serving others. That’s how you find true happiness in life. One thing that calls for attention is this salivation and liberation will not be pain free. With this suffering inflicted along the way, you will excel in life. Additionally, there are a number of profound concepts discussed in the book which leave no stone unturned in contributing to the betterment of life.
