Kupwara: Assistant Director Food on Friday put under suspension a storekeeper after local residents in Chontipora Mirpora and its adjoining areas in Mawer Qalamabad protested against the latter for leaving them without ration for last several months.

Taking cognisance of the matter, the Assistant Director Food and Civil Supplies upon corroborating the complaints with the facts, suspended the storekeeper for his erroneous behaviour.

When contacted, the Assistant Director Food & Civil Supplies Wali Mohamad told GNS that he had placed the storekeeper under suspension till further orders. “It was brought to my notice that the storekeeper has been lackadaisical vis-à-vis his duty following which I have placed the license of FPS dealer namely Javid Ahmad Pir under suspension till further investigations,” he said.

“Action as warranted would be taken against him”, he said adding “I will personally visit there tomorrow to oversee the distribution of ration in the villages.”

Earlier in the day, the residents of several villages alleged that they were without ration for the last several months, as according to them, the storekeeper was not visiting the depot for distribution of ration.

“Despite conducting biometric and issuance of ‘slips’ we are still deprived of ration”, a group of locals said adding they received a cold shoulder even after they brought the matter into the notice of Tehsil Supply Officer. (GNS)
