Promoting road safety  awareness through Essay Competition held at Anantnag

ANANTNAG: As part of ongoing 35 National Road Safety Month, 2024Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) Anantnag in collaboration with Education department Anantnag today organized  an Essay Competition’ on ‘Importance of Road Safety Education for Children. A good number of students  participated in the competition which was held at Radiant School Botengoo  Anantnag.

Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Dr Mohammad Zubair Lattoo while talking with the media persons told that during 2022, India registered the highest count of road crash fatalities, exceeding 1.68 lakh deaths. This unsettling statistic translates to an average of 462 deaths daily. Despite a 5% global decrease in road crash deaths, India witnessed a year-on-year increase of 12% in road accidents and 9.4% in fatalities in the same year. The country averages 19 deaths due to road accidents every hour which amounts to nearly one death every three and a half minute.

He  said that road safety education can play wonders in preventing preventable deaths in order to highlight and emphasize the need for safe roads.

Dr Zubair further emphasized that the primary objective of this event was to promote awareness among students who were getting involved in road accidents in large numbers.

The essay would provoke the students to think about the dangers of road accidents and come up with ways of reducing accidents on roads.
