Srinagar, June 21(GNS): Police on Saturday said that it has arrested an individual posing as a police official during routine naka checking at Harwan Crossing, under the jurisdiction of Police Station Bomai.
In a handout to GNS, the police said that the individual attempted to flee upon noticing the police party but was promptly apprehended. Upon personal search, a fake police identity card and driving license were recovered from his possession.
The accused has been identified as Barkat Ahmad War, son of Sanaullah War, resident of Zaloora, and a driver by profession. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had forged the identity card to impersonate a police official—an act likely intended to deceive the public and misuse the name of the police department for personal advantage.
Accordingly, FIR No. 32/2025 under Sections 205, 319(2) of BNS has been registered at Police Station Bomai, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the motive, possible misuse, and any wider links involved.
Sopore Police reiterates that impersonation of law enforcement personnel is a serious offence and will be dealt with firmly. The public is advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior or fraudulent activities, reads the statement.(GNS)
