Baramulla Horror: 2 Men Arrested For Gang-Rape, Filming Act On Mobile

Baramulla, July 28 (GNS): Baramulla Police have solved a rape case with the arrest of two accused and recovery of crucial digital evidence, officials said on Tuesday.

In a handout to GNS, the police said that, a 21-year-old woman approached Police Station Baramulla on 25.07.2026 and lodged a written complaint. She alleged that on 03.07.2026 she had gone to Jalsheeri Drangbal with a friend for an outing when two unknown persons approached them, harassed them and started recording videos on their mobile phones.

As per the complaint, the accused allegedly assaulted her companion and chased him away, before forcibly overpowering the complainant. They allegedly sexually assaulted her one after the other while recording the act on a mobile phone, and then fled from the spot. The complainant stated that during the incident the accused addressed each other as “Shakir” and “Ashraf.”

Acting on the complaint, FIR No. 112/2026 was registered at Police Station Baramulla under Sections 70(1) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. The investigation was assigned to PSI Menakshi.

During the investigation, under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Baramulla and SHO Police Station Baramulla, police carried out sustained searches and used human intelligence and scientific techniques. This led to the identification and arrest of two persons are Shakir Ahmad Lone, S/o Abdul Gani Lone, aged 22 years and Mohammad Ashraf Dar, S/o Abdul Hamid Dar, aged 27 years, Driver. Both are residents of Jalsheeri, Baramulla.

Police said both accused were taken into custody and during sustained interrogation they disclosed their involvement in the crime. The mobile phone allegedly used to record the act was also recovered from their possession.

Further investigation is underway to collect scientific, medical, digital and other corroborative evidence.

“Baramulla Police remain committed to a fair, impartial and expeditious investigation. Every effort is being made to ensure all evidence is collected meticulously and strict legal action is taken against all those found involved, in accordance with law,” a police spokesperson said. (GNS)
