Leh, Sept 24, KNT: Authorities in Leh have booked Congress leader and councillor Phuntsog Stanzin Tsepag for allegedly instigating people through a speech that, according to the LG administration, triggered unrest in the region.

Police sources said cognisance was taken of a public address delivered by Tsepag yesterday, which was found to contain remarks capable of provoking disorder. Acting on the inputs, a formal case has been registered against him under the relevant sections of law.

Officials confirmed that investigations are underway to assess the full impact of the councillor’s statements on the ongoing agitation in Ladakh. “We are scrutinising the speech and its context. Appropriate legal action will follow based on evidence,” a senior police officer said.

The registration of the case comes amid heightened tension in Leh, where protests demanding statehood and inclusion under the Sixth Schedule have entered their third week.
Today’s violence left 4 dead and over 70 injured. Violent incidents, including stone pelting and arson, has already prompted the administration to impose restrictions under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita to prevent gatherings. [KNT]
