Rajouri, Dec 18: In a move aimed at addressing the long-pending grievances of transporters, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has ordered the deployment of a Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) to Rajouri for strict enforcement against illegal tempo operations.

As per Government Order No. 97-JK (TR) of 2025 dated December 17 as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, an MVI, presently posted in Samba, has been deployed in the office of the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), Rajouri. The officer will assist in conducting regular enforcement drives, including laying nakas on National Highway stretches, inter-district routes of Rajouri-Poonch, and at intermediate bus stands.

According to the order, the enforcement will focus on checking permit conditions, seating capacity, chassis integrity, vehicle fitness and overloading, which are to be verified on a daily basis without exception. The officer has been directed to submit a weekly Action Taken Report to the Regional Transport Office, Jammu through the ARTO, Rajouri.

The government order further states that the official shall be deemed relieved from his previous place of posting with immediate effect.

The decision is expected to strengthen transport enforcement in the region and ensure compliance with motor vehicle rules, thereby providing relief to registered transporters affected by illegal operations. (KNC)
