Departmental Inquiry Finds Policeman Guilty of Prolonged Absence; Disciplinary Action Taken to Uphold Force Discipline

Jammu, July 11: A police constable posted in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district has been dismissed from service after remaining unauthorisedly absent from duty for more than two-and-a-half years, following the completion of departmental disciplinary proceedings.

According to official sources, the action was taken after the department established that the police personnel had continuously remained absent from duty without obtaining permission from the competent authority. Despite being served with repeated notices and being provided sufficient opportunities to explain his prolonged absence, the official failed to resume duties or furnish any satisfactory justification.

Following a detailed departmental inquiry, the disciplinary authority concluded that the conduct of the constable amounted to grave misconduct and a serious breach of service discipline. Acting on the findings of the inquiry, the competent authority ordered his dismissal from service in accordance with the applicable provisions governing police personnel.

Officials maintained that members of the police force are expected to adhere to the highest standards of discipline and accountability, and prolonged unauthorised absence cannot be tolerated in a uniformed service entrusted with maintaining law and order.

The department reiterated its commitment to enforcing discipline within the force, stating that strict action would continue to be taken against personnel found violating service rules or neglecting their official responsibilities.(KNC)
