Ganderbal, Jan 28 : A powerful surge of snow swept through parts of Sonamarg after an avalanche struck near the Sarbal area in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Tuesday night, officials said, adding that no casualties or damage have been reported.
An official told news agency Kashmir News Corner (KNC) that the avalanche occurred near the truck yard in Sonamarg at around 10:13 pm and was captured on CCTV cameras installed in nearby hotels.
He said the avalanche was triggered due to heavy snowfall that has been continuing in the area since past week.
“Fortunately, there has been no loss of life or property in the incident,” the official said.
Videos showing a sudden rush of snow sweeping across nearby structures quickly surfaced on social media, drawing widespread attention.
Officials said concerned departments are closely monitoring the situation and response teams have been deployed as a precautionary measure. Residents have been advised to remain alert and avoid movement in avalanche-prone areas. (KNC)
