April 09: Acting tough against social crimes, J&K Police in Shopian have arrested three gamblers and seized stake money from their possession.
During routine patrolling near Sugan Orchards within the jurisdiction of Police Post Turkwangam, police party apprehended three individuals who were found indulging in gambling on the spot. The accused have been identified as Bashir Ahmad Ganie son of Gh Mohd Ganie resident of Pulwama, Nisar Ahmad Seh son of Gh Mohd Seh resident of Achan Pulwama, and Hilal Ahmad Ahanger son of Gh Qadir Ahanger resident of Malikpora Pulwama.
Officers have seized stake money amounting to ₹29,000/- and playing cards from their possession. However, one individual identified as Bilal Ahmad Sheikh resident of Tresal Pulwama managed to flee from the spot. The accused have been arrested and shifted to Police Station where they remain in custody. Accordingly, a case FIR No. 49/2026 under Section 13 of the Gambling Act has been registered at Police Station Zainapora and further investigation is underway.
Persons found indulging in criminal activities shall be dealt with as per law. General public is requested to share information regarding crimes in their neighbourhood with the local police units.
