RAJOURI, MAY 01 : The Motor Vehicles Department Jammu and Kashmir has launched a stringent enforcement drive in Rajouri against vehicles and drivers allegedly involved in cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, resulting in the disqualification of five driving licences and suspension of five registration certificates.

Officials told KNC that the action was taken by Assistant Regional Transport Officer Rajesh Gupta on the recommendations of Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Sikarwar.

During the drive, five driving licences were cancelled due to the alleged involvement of the holders in NDPS-related offences. Likewise, the registration certificates of five vehicles were suspended as part of the ongoing crackdown.

In addition, acting on inputs from Traffic Police, the department also suspended a large number of vehicle registrations for violation of traffic rules. As per officials, 2,232 non-transport vehicles and 15 transport vehicles had their RCs suspended for non-compliance with traffic norms.

Officials said the action reflects coordinated efforts between the Motor Vehicles Department and district police to curb drug-related activities and enforce strict road safety measures.

Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Sharma said the administration has adopted a zero-tolerance approach towards drug abuse and related illegal activities. He asserted that strict action will continue against violators and urged the public to cooperate in making Rajouri a drug-free district.(KNC)
