NEW DELHI, MAY 17 :Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi on Saturday issued a strong warning to Pakistan, stating that Islamabad must rethink its policy of supporting terrorism or face serious consequences in the future.
Addressing an interactive programme titled ‘Sena Samwad’ at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi, the Army Chief said Pakistan cannot continue harbouring terrorists and operating against India while expecting normal relations.
Gen Dwivedi remarked that if Pakistan persists in backing terror activities, it will have to decide “whether it wants to remain part of geography or become history,” underlining India’s uncompromising stand against terrorism.
The Army Chief was responding to a question regarding India’s military response in case a situation similar to Operation Sindoor emerges again. He made it clear that the Indian Army remains fully prepared to counter any threat to national security.
His statement came shortly after the country observed the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor, launched in retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack last year. During the operation, Indian forces targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir through precision strikes.
The conflict later escalated with Pakistan launching retaliatory actions, prompting further Indian counter-offensives. The military standoff between the two neighbouring countries lasted nearly 88 hours before both sides reached an understanding on May 10 last year.
Speaking on future security challenges, Gen Dwivedi said warfare is rapidly evolving beyond conventional land, sea and air combat, with cyber, space and cognitive domains becoming increasingly important.
He said the Indian Army is adapting to all forms of warfare, including hybrid warfare, missile technology, artificial intelligence and quantum-based systems, to meet future challenges effectively.
The Army Chief further noted that upcoming generations are more familiar with technological applications, especially artificial intelligence, which would play a major role in shaping future battlefields.(KNC)
