Srinagar, May 14: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday announced that government employees in the national capital will work from home for two days every week as part of a fuel conservation initiative launched following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for measures to reduce fuel consumption.

Speaking to reporters, Gupta said the Delhi government would implement the work-from-home arrangement across its offices, while private companies and institutions would also be advised to adopt a similar system for two days a week.

“At the government level, Delhi Government offices will observe work from home for two days every week. Similarly, private companies and institutions will also be advised to implement work from home for two days a week. This will be an advisory, and the Labour Department will monitor its implementation,” the Chief Minister said.

As part of the measures announced by the government, the official petrol and diesel quota for officers’ vehicles has been reduced by 20 per cent. Ministers and government officials have also been directed to use the Delhi Metro every Monday to encourage greater use of public transport.

Reports said the Delhi government is also considering holding a significant number of official meetings virtually and limiting non-essential vehicle usage as part of the broader fuel-saving campaign.

The measures come days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens and state governments to adopt fuel conservation practices amid concerns over rising energy consumption and global fuel-related challenges. (with inputs from agencies)
