Srinagar June 15(GNS): Budgam Police have registered an FIR against individuals for allegedly creating and circulating social media content that could outrage religious feelings and promote enmity between communities ahead of Muharram.
In a handout to GNS, the police said that the FIR No. 163/2026 was lodged at Police Station Budgam under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police said the action followed credible inputs about the dissemination of provocative videos and misinformation aimed at creating hatred and division.
An investigation is underway to identify those responsible, with officials stating that appropriate legal action will be taken as per law.
Police appealed to the public to exercise restraint on social media and avoid creating, sharing, or forwarding content that may incite hatred, hurt religious sentiments, or disturb public order. “Any person found involved in such activities shall be dealt with strictly as per law,” the statement said.
Budgam Police reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace, communal harmony, and public order across the district, reads the statement. (GNS)
