June 18: As part of the intensified enforcement drive under the ongoing 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, Police in Sopore, in coordination with the Drug Control Authorities, conducted a joint inspection of medical shops in Sopore town.
During the inspection, two chemist shops operating at Main Chowk Sopore and run by Tahir Shafi son of Late Mohammad Shafi resident of Shalimar Colony Sopore and Mohammad Amin Shah son of Habibullah Shah resident of Krankshivan Colony Sopore were found violating provisions of the Drugs & Cosmetics Act.
The inspection team observed serious irregularities, including the sale of prescription medicines without valid prescriptions and overcharging customers beyond the prescribed rates.
Taking immediate cognizance of the violations, the joint team sealed the medical shops on the spot after completing the requisite legal formalities.
The action forms part of the ongoing drive being undertaken under the 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan to prevent diversion and misuse of pharmaceutical drugs and ensure strict compliance with the provisions of the Drugs & Cosmetics Act.
J&K Police reiterated that strict legal action shall be taken against all violators. Chemists and druggists have been advised to strictly follow prescribed regulations and refrain from selling Scheduled H, H1, and X category medicines without proper prescription, billing and record maintenance.
J&K Police remains committed to curbing drug abuse and ensuring that pharmaceutical drugs are not misused for illicit purposes.
