Kulgam, June 27th: The Food Safety Department Kulgam on Saturday intensified its market surveillance by conducting a special inspection drive against the sale and distribution of counterfeit Verka ghee across the district.
The drive was undertaken on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Shahzad Alam, as part of the district administration’s efforts to ensure food safety and protect consumers from spurious products.
A team led by District Food Safety Officer Inder Jeet Singh, along with Food Safety Officer Nighat and other officials, inspected several wholesale and retail outlets to check for the presence of fake Verka ghee in the local market.
During the inspections, wholesalers, dealers, and retailers were instructed to remain vigilant and verify the authenticity of their stock before purchasing or selling any food products. Officials emphasized that only genuine and quality-assured products should be made available to consumers.
The department also appealed to traders to promptly report any suspected counterfeit food products to the concerned authorities.
Officials said the ongoing inspection drives are aimed at preventing the sale of adulterated and fake food items, safeguarding public health, and ensuring strict compliance with food safety regulations across the district.
