Srinagar, July 6(GNS): The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast spells of rain and thundershowers across Jammu and Kashmir over the next one week, with a warning of heavy rain and flash floods in vulnerable areas.
An official told GNS that weather is likely to remain generally cloudy from July 6 to 8 with one or two spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places. Heavy rain along with brief intense showers and thunder may occur at a few places in the Jammu division, mainly during late afternoon, evening and late night to early morning hours.
Many districts of Kashmir division are also expected to receive light to moderate rain at many places during this period, with brief intense showers at a few places mainly in the afternoon and during early morning hours.
From July 9 to 12, the weather is likely to stay generally hot and humid with one or two spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places. Brief intense heavy showers with thunder are also possible at a few places.
The Met office has warned that heavy rainfall and brief intense showers between July 6 and 8 may trigger localized flash floods and landslides or mudslides at a few vulnerable places in the Chenab Valley and Pir Panjal Range, mostly during afternoon and early morning hours.
People have been advised to stay away from nallas, streams and landslide-prone areas during this period.(GNS)
