Uri, Jul 10 (GNS): A residential house belonging to Mohammad Sadiq Khan, son of Ghulam Hyder Khan and a resident of Mohura, Uri, was, as per the family, extensively damaged due to blasting activities being carried out as part of the NHPC Uri-I Stage II hydroelectric project.

The affected resident while talking to GNS said the blasting caused significant structural cracks and damage to the house, rendering it unsafe for habitation. He further claimed that several other houses in the vicinity also sustained minor damage as a result of the ongoing tunnel blasting.

Khan appealed to the management of MAX INFRA (I) Pvt. Ltd., the company executing the tunnel blasting work for the project, to provide adequate compensation by repairing his damaged house. He also requested employment with the company, stating that he belongs to an economically weaker family and requires financial support to sustain his household.

The blasting operations are being undertaken as part of tunnel construction under the NHPC Uri-I Stage II hydroelectric project, with MAX INFRA (I) Pvt. Ltd. serving as the executing agency.

Meanwhile, a senior official of the Uri administration told GNS that the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Uri, has constituted a team to visit the site, verify the reported damage, and assess the extent of the losses. The findings of the assessment will determine the appropriate course of action by the authorities.

Residents of the area have expressed concern over the impact of the ongoing blasting activities on nearby habitations and urged the authorities as well as the executing agency to implement adequate safety measures and ensure that affected families receive timely assistance and compensation, where warranted.
