Srinagar, Aug 5 : Reports of a cloudburst have emerged from the Nagam area of Block 2A, D.K. Marg, Nandimarg in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, triggering a sudden surge in water levels across several local streams and nallahs.
According to local sources, a massive increase in the flow of water has been witnessed in Namlan Nallah, raising concerns among residents living in vulnerable areas. Several other nallahs in and around the region have also experienced a sharp rise in water levels following the reported cloudburst.
The sudden increase in water discharge has created panic among locals, who fear possible flash floods, damage to agricultural land, roads, and other public infrastructure if the water levels continue to rise.
Meanwhile, district authorities and disaster management teams are closely monitoring the situation. Residents residing near nallahs and low-lying areas have been advised to remain vigilant and avoid venturing near overflowing streams as a precautionary measure.
As of now, there are no immediate reports of any loss of life or major property damage. However, officials are assessing the situation, and further details are awaited.(KNC)
