Jammu, Aug 13: A five-day search operation in the Chenab River near Hamirpur-Sidhar village in the Khour area of Jammu district ended with the recovery of the body of the second youth who had drowned in the river along with his friend on Aug 9.

The deceased have been identified as 30-year-old Gajay Singh and 35-year-old Rakesh Singh, both residents of the Khour area of Akhnoor.

The two had reportedly gone to bathe in the Chenab near Hamirpur-Sidhar village on Aug 9 when they drowned.

The body of Gajay Singh was recovered during the earlier phase of the search operation and was taken to Khour hospital for completion of legal formalities.

The search continued for Rakesh Singh for the next several days, with authorities eventually recovering his body, bringing the five-day operation to an end.

Before the recovery operation, authorities had taken into possession a motorcycle, two mobile phones and clothes found lying near the riverbank, which helped establish the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of the two men.

The recovery of both bodies has brought an end to the search operation, while further legal formalities are being completed by the authorities. [KNT]
