Srinagar, Aug 14: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Srinagar, on Friday issued a heavy rain alert for several areas of Jammu and Kashmir, warning of heavy rain and brief intense showers during the next three hours.

According to the IMD nowcast, heavy rain or brief intense heavy showers are most likely to occur at many places over Anantnag, Pahalgam, Tral, Pulwama, Kulgam, Banihal-Ramban and Shopian.

The weather alert, issued at 2:46 PM, remains effective until 5:46 PM on Friday.

The IMD has specifically warned of the possibility of flash floods, landslides and mudslides in Pahalgam, Shopian, Kulgam, Anantnag and Ramban districts.

The alert comes amid continued spells of unstable weather across parts of Jammu and Kashmir, with intense short-duration rainfall posing a risk of sudden water accumulation, flooding in vulnerable areas and disruption of road connectivity.

People in the alerted areas, particularly those travelling through hilly and landslide-prone stretches, have been advised to remain cautious during the period of intense rainfall. [KNT]
