Srinagar, Aug 22: A Kashmiri Pandit family presently living in Jammu has welcomed the prompt action by Srinagar Police following a complaint alleging an attempt to grab their land in Soura and threats to prevent them from returning to Kashmir.

Shakuntala Bhan, who is presently residing at Muthi Camp in Jammu, said her family owns around 165 kanals of land in Omarheer area of Soura and alleged that Malik Abid Hussain of Firdous Abad, Batamaloo, along with his associates, was attempting to take control of the property.

She alleged that she and her family were threatened with dire consequences and warned against returning to Kashmir Valley.

Bhan said she approached the IGP Kashmir, SSP Srinagar and SDPO Zadibal through written complaints, following which Srinagar Police took prompt action and arrested the accused.

She said the accused is presently lodged in Srinagar Central Jail.

Bhan further alleged that land grabbers had already occupied a substantial portion of the property and that a complex had also been constructed on part of the land.

She also alleged that around two kanals of her land had been occupied by the Jal Shakti Department, where construction material and other stock had been dumped.

Bhan said she had approached the Chief Engineer of the department seeking removal of the stock and vacation of the land, but alleged that the material continued to remain there.

She said she had been threatened against visiting Kashmir, alleging that she could be killed if she returned.

The family appreciated the role of Srinagar Police in acting on its complaint and taking action against the alleged land grabber.  [KNT]
