Incident sparks concern among residents as locals seek urgent wildlife control measures
GANDERBAL, AUGUST 25: A 50-year-old man was injured after being attacked by a wild bear in Watalbagh village of Lar area in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Tuesday, officials said.
The injured man has been identified as Mohd Maqbool Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, a resident of Watalbagh, Lar.
According to officials, the incident took place at around 11:00 am, when Bhat was attacked by the wild animal. He sustained injuries in the attack and was immediately shifted to District Hospital Ganderbal for medical treatment.
The incident has caused concern among residents of Watalbagh and adjoining areas, with locals expressing apprehension over the increasing movement of wild animals close to residential areas.
Residents have urged the concerned authorities, particularly the Wildlife Department, to intensify surveillance and take immediate preventive measures to minimise the risk of further human-wildlife conflict.
Locals have also appealed for timely intervention and adequate safety measures in vulnerable areas to prevent similar incidents and ensure the protection of residents from wildlife encounters.(KNC)
