Labourer Injured In NHPC Uri Tunnel Mishap Succumbs At SKIMS; Locals Allege Negligence, Demand Probe

Srinagar, Sep 10 (GNS): A labourer who was critically injured in an accident at NHPC Uri-I Stage-II Project site has succumbed to his injuries at SKIMS Soura.

The deceased has been identified as Javid Ahmed Batla alias Javid Khan, resident of Pringal, Boniyar. He was working with Max Infra Company at the tunnel site when he was critically injured on Tuesday night. He was initially shifted to PHC Boniyar and later referred to GMC Baramulla and then SKIMS Soura where he succumbed on Wednesday.

As per locals, the death occurred due to negligence of the company as precautionary measures were not taken and Javid came under a loose rock inside the tunnel.

Locals have demanded an enquiry into the incident. This is said to be the first death during the work of the new power project at Uri.

Meanwhile, police have taken cognizance and further proceedings have been initiated.(GNS)
