Properties Worth ₹16 Crore acted upon, Over 323 Kg Contraband Seized, 1,606 kgs of contraband destroyed

June 11: Continuing its relentless and sustained campaign against drug trafficking and substance abuse under the 100-day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan launched by Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha, Anantnag Police has achieved remarkable success during the first two months of the initiative, reaffirming its commitment towards building a drug-free society.

During the first two months of the campaign, Anantnag Police registered a total of 172 FIRs under various provisions of the NDPS Act and arrested 156 drug peddlers involved in narcotics trafficking and related activities. As part of its intensified enforcement efforts, Anantnag Police seized more than 323.5 kilograms of contraband substances and recovered ₹26,50000 in cash linked to narcotics trafficking during multiple operations conducted across the district.

In a major crackdown on the financial networks of drug traffickers, properties in 29 cases, valued at approximately ₹12.5 crore, were attached under the relevant provisions of law. Additionally, four properties worth nearly ₹3.76 crore, identified as proceeds of narcotics trafficking, were demolished, taking the total value of properties acted upon to approximately ₹16 crore. Demonstrating a zero-tolerance approach towards narcotic cultivation, Anantnag Police destroyed illegal narcotic cultivation spread over nearly 350 marlas of land during the period. Furthermore, over 1,606 kilograms of narcotic substances were destroyed after completion of all legal formalities.

As part of efforts to dismantle the ecosystem supporting narcotics trafficking, Anantnag Police also retrieved more than 300 marlas of Government land from the illegal encroachment of drug peddlers. The campaign witnessed the arrest of three female drug peddlers and four female cultivators involved in narcotics-related activities. Additionally, three Government employees were found involved in drug-related cases, and legal action has been initiated against them in accordance with the law. To strengthen preventive measures against habitual offenders and major drug traffickers, 119 drug peddlers were subjected to preventive action under relevant laws, while three notorious drug peddlers were detained under the PIT-NDPS Act.

In coordination with the concerned authorities, 17 driving licences (DLs) and 09 registration certificates (RCs) were cancelled for involvement in narcotics-related offences. As part of sustained enforcement and area domination measures, Anantnag Police conducted 180 Narco-CASOs (Cordon and Search Operations) across the district to curb the movement, distribution and supply of narcotic substances.

To ensure strict compliance with regulations governing the sale of pharmaceutical drugs, Anantnag Police, in coordination with the concerned departments, inspected 51 medical shops across the district. During these inspections, 16 violations were detected and appropriate legal action was initiated against the violators. Further intensifying its action against the drug network, Anantnag Police busted two narcotic hideouts used for the concealment and distribution of narcotic substances.

Recognizing the importance of professional investigation, 124 Investigating Officers (IOs) handling NDPS cases were imparted specialized training at DPO Anantnag on legal procedures, evidence collection, investigation techniques and prosecution of narcotics-related offences.

Police reiterates its unwavering commitment towards eradicating the drug menace and safeguarding society from the harmful effects of narcotics. The public, particularly the youth, are urged to actively cooperate with the Police by sharing information regarding drug trafficking and substance abuse.
