Srinagar, Jun 03: A fire at a hotel in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area on Wednesday morning left at least 21 people dead and more than 40 others rescued, said officials as per various media reports.
The incident occurred at a restaurant-cum-hotel complex when flames and heavy smoke quickly spread through the building, trapping occupants inside. Emergency teams from the Delhi Fire Services deployed multiple fire tenders after receiving the alert at about 8:50 am.
Rescue operations continued for several hours as firefighters and disaster response personnel evacuated guests and staff. Those pulled out of the building were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Authorities said a number of the deceased were foreign nationals, with early inputs indicating that victims include people from Central Asia and African countries. Identification work is still in progress.
Officials have not yet determined the reason behind the fire. Investigators are examining the site to establish how the blaze started and whether safety systems at the premises functioned as required.
