Srinagar, June 27 (GNS): Police on Saturday said it have arrested four persons allegedly involved in ATM loot case last week in Kulgam and retrieved the money from the machine with the help of experts.
“During the intervening night of 19/20th of June, burglars dismantled the ATM of State Bank of India near Fruit Mandi Kulgam and used a vehicle to transport it to a safer place,” a police spokesman said in a statement issued to GNS. “Next day, on a specific input, Police recovered the damaged ATM in a deserted area of Laroo in the district.”
Police, he said, acting on a tip-off launched a manhunt and arrested four burglars identified as Liyaqat Ahmad Shiekh, Umer Akbar Shiekh, Yawar Ahmad Lone, all residents of Khasipora Shopian and Junaid Bashir Bhat of Nonmie, Yaripora.
“Later, Rs 8,65,800 was recovered from the damaged ATM with the help of experts from J&K Bank and SDRF.”
He said a Case (FIR No.121/2020 U/S 457, 380) IPC already stands registered in Police Station Kulgam and further investigation into the matter was in progress. (GNS)
