Srinagar, Aug 11 (GNS): Traffic Police Headquarters J&K on Monday said very slow movement was witnessed on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway NH-44 in the last 24 hours due to single-lane stretches and bad road conditions.

Officials told GNS that from 10-08-2026, 1600 hrs to 11-08-2026, 1600 hrs, traffic remained sluggish at Dawal in Udhampur and between Marog and Kishtwari Pather because of narrow, uneven road patches. Additionally, 3 vehicles broke down between Nashri and Digdol, further hampering movement. Traffic at Dawal, Udhampur was managed in a regulated manner on a 30-40 meter single-lane stretch.

In view of the IMD forecast of rainfall and inclement weather over the next few days, commuters have been advised to undertake travel on NH-44 only after confirming road status from TCUs at Srinagar, Ramban and Jammu. Updates are also available on J&K Traffic Police’s Twitter and Facebook pages.

Passengers and LMV operators have been urged to travel during daytime and avoid night travel due to the risk of shooting stones, landslides and ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal. HMV and LMV operators carrying fresh perishable or live stock have been asked to load vehicles as per the advisory issued by Traffic Police Headquarters. HMVs have also been requested to avoid overloading and to carry sufficient fuel. Vehicle owners must check the fitness of their vehicles before undertaking journey on the highway. Commuters have been advised to avoid unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal, especially near vulnerable landslide and shooting stone zones.

As per the traffic plan for 12-08-2026, subject to fair weather and better road conditions, LMVs, passenger vehicles, private cars and HMVs will be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW — from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. Commuters have been asked to follow lane discipline as overtaking and wrong-lane driving can cause congestion. TCU Jammu and Srinagar will coordinate with TCU Ramban regarding road conditions.

Security Forces vehicles will also be allowed from both sides on NH-44, subject to fair weather and good road condition, after confirming the status from TCU Ramban.

On Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag NH-244, as per orders issued by SDM Chatroo and SDM Kokernag, LMVs and private cars will be allowed from both sides after getting green signal from NHIDCL. Vehicles will be permitted to move from PP Parana towards Anantnag between 0800 hrs and 1600 hrs and from Daksum towards Kishtwar between 0900 hrs and 1600 hrs. No vehicle will be allowed after the cut-off timing.

As per Divisional Commissioner Kashmir’s order, LMVs will be allowed from both sides up to 1300 hrs from Sonamarg towards Kargil and from Minamarg towards Srinagar, after receiving clearance from road maintenance agencies. HMVs will be allowed from Minamarg towards Srinagar between 1200 hrs and 1700 hrs. No vehicle will be permitted after 1700 hrs. Motorists have been advised to carry and use anti-skid chains for better grip on slippery stretches. Security Forces convoys on SSG road have been asked to plan movement in a way that civilian traffic is not disturbed.

On Mughal Road (NH-701A), subject to fair weather and clearance from GREF, LMVs and HMVs up to ten tyres will be allowed from both sides from Chandimarh (Baffliaz) towards Shopian and from Herpora (Shopian) towards Poonch between 0700 hrs and 1800 hrs. No vehicle will be allowed after the prescribed cut-off timings as per the order of District Magistrate Shopian.

Traffic Police has urged people to undertake journey only after confirming the status of the road from Traffic Control Units.(GNS)
