Sonamarg, July 21: A Himalayan brown bear along with its two cubs was spotted near the popular Fish Point area of Sonamarg during the late-night hours, prompting authorities to advise tourists and local residents to exercise caution while moving in the vicinity.

The sighting attracted attention among visitors and locals, as the bears were seen roaming near the tourist destination. Sonamarg, surrounded by dense forests and alpine landscapes, is known to be a natural habitat for brown bears and several other wildlife species, making such encounters occasional, particularly during the night.

Wildlife officials said similar bear sightings have been reported from different parts of Sonamarg in previous years, especially during the summer season when human activity increases around forest fringes.

Authorities have appealed to tourists, local residents, and motorists not to approach, feed, photograph from close range, or provoke wild animals, as such actions can pose serious risks to both humans and wildlife.

The Wildlife Protection Department has urged the public to remain vigilant, maintain a safe distance from any wild animal, and immediately report any unusual wildlife movement to the concerned authorities to ensure timely intervention and the safety of both people and animals. Officials also stressed the importance of respecting wildlife habitats and following all safety advisories while visiting the picturesque tourist resort.(KNC)
