New Delhi, June 13: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed two separate chargesheets in connection with the alleged misappropriation of funds linked to the Haryana Government and Chandigarh Smart City Limited (CSCL) in the IDFC First Bank fraud cases.

According to a CBI press release issued on Friday, the chargesheet related to the Haryana Government funds has been filed before the Court of the Special Judge, CBI, Panchkula. Two private individuals, identified as recipients of the proceeds of crime, have been chargesheeted in this case.

The agency said this is the second chargesheet in the Haryana Government case. Earlier, the CBI had chargesheeted 15 accused persons and entities, including three government officials, six bankers, two companies, and four private individuals.

In the Chandigarh Smart City Limited case, the chargesheet has been filed before the Special Judge, CBI, Chandigarh. A total of seven accused persons have been named, including five bank officials, one CSCL official, and one private person. This is the first chargesheet filed in the CSCL matter.

The chargesheets invoke offences related to criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, forgery, cheating, and violations under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The CBI stated that it had taken over one case from the Haryana State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau concerning eight departments of the Haryana Government, and two cases from the Economic Offences Police Station, Chandigarh, pertaining to Chandigarh Smart City Limited and CREST Chandigarh.

The investigating agency noted that the total financial loss in the Haryana Government case stands at ₹504 crore, while the loss in the Chandigarh UT case amounts to ₹153 crore.

The CBI said investigations in both matters are continuing and indicated that more chargesheets are likely to be filed in the future.

Reaffirming its commitment, the agency said it remains dedicated to conducting a fair, thorough, and time-bound investigation to bring all those responsible to justice.(KNC)
