Srinagar, May 11 : The Food Safety Team Srinagar on Monday took cognizance of a viral video circulating on social media showing the presence of a cockroach in biryani and subsequently conducted an inspection of the concerned food establishment.

During the inspection, officials found the eatery operating under poor hygienic conditions. The team also observed evidence of cockroach infestation on the premises and noted multiple violations of Schedule 4 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

Officials said that samples of the prepared food were collected and sent for analytical examination. The inspection further revealed that the Food Business Operator had failed to undertake mandatory pest control measures as required under the provisions of the Act.

In view of the violations, the authorities ordered closure of the establishment and said that a challan under various provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 would be submitted before the competent court.

Meanwhile, the Food Safety Department has directed all Food Business Operators to ensure regular pest control measures and maintain proper hygiene standards as mandated under the law. The department warned that strict action would be taken against violators under the provisions of the FSS Act.(KNC)
