Special Anti-Corruption Court Orders Trial in Alleged Fraud Involving Forged Cheques, Fabricated Bank Entries
JAMMU, AUGUST 20: A Special Anti-Corruption Court in Jammu has formally framed charges against a former Branch Manager and two other officials of Citizen Cooperative Bank, Vijaypur, in an alleged Rs 11 lakh bank fraud case involving forged cheques, fabricated entries and alleged misappropriation of funds from a customer’s cash-credit account.
Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Jammu, Sonia Gupta, ordered framing of charges against former Branch Manager Rajiv Bali, Parshotam Kumar and former cashier Kulbir Singh under Sections 409, 420, 465, 467, 468, 471 and 120-B RPC, read with Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The accused pleaded not guilty and claimed trial before the Court. Following their denial of the charges, the Court directed the prosecution to produce its evidence in support of the allegations.
The matter has been listed for prosecution evidence on October 10, 2026.
The case originated from FIR No. 25/2015, registered at Police Station Crime Branch, Jammu.
According to the prosecution, Rajiv Bali was serving as Branch Manager of Citizen Cooperative Bank, Vijaypur, while Parshotam Kumar and Kulbir Singh were posted at the branch as clerk and cashier, respectively.
The prosecution has alleged that the accused officials were involved in several irregularities concerning a customer’s cash-credit account, including the alleged use of forged cheques, fabrication of bank entries and misappropriation of funds amounting to around Rs 11 lakh.
The proceedings also involved Darshan Kumar Sharma, who was serving as an accountant at the relevant time. However, he died during the pendency of the case, following which the Court ordered that the proceedings against him be abated.
With the charges now formally framed, the case will enter the evidence stage, during which the prosecution will be required to substantiate the allegations through admissible evidence before the Court.
The Court’s framing of charges does not amount to a finding of guilt. The allegations remain subject to trial, and all the accused are presumed innocent unless proved guilty in accordance with law.(KNC)
