Srinagar, Nov 9 (GNS): Police on Monday arrested a thief involved in theft at famous Dastageer Sahib shrine at Srinagar in October this year. 

“On 13-09-2020 Police Station Khanyar received an information from Intizamya Committee of the Zeyarat Sharief Dastgeer Sahib Khanyar that during intervening night of 12/13 Sep. 2020 some unknown thief /thieves have entered the shrine and broke down the safe/locker and decamped with money & Golden ornaments from the safe/locker,” police said, adding, “On this information case F.l.R No. 66/2020 US 457, 380, 427 IPC was registered in P/S Khanyar and investigation of the case was set into motion.”

During the course of investigation, the spokesman said that crime scene was examined and scientific evidence/CCTV footage was collected from Scene of crime.

“Number of suspects were questioned in the case and during investigation one suspect namely Tahir Ahmad Mir @Namta of Hardan Kuligam Kupwara A/P Palpora Noorbagh Srinagar was found involved in the instant case and the accused was arrested on 06/11/2020.”

The spokesman said that he confessed that he has committed the crime and on his confession and identification stolen property i.e Cash Rs.10,1363/- (one lack one thousand three hundred sixty three) and some Golden ornaments were recovered from the place where he had kept the stolen cash and the ornaments.

“Also some more recoveries were made on his disclosure i.e one Laptop, 02 cycles and 09 mobile phones which have been stolen from different parts of Srinagar city,” he said, adding, “Further investigation of the case is going on. Some more recoveries are expected from the accused.” (GNS)
