SRINAGAR, FEBRUARY 10: A meeting of District Level Committee on Narco Coordination Centre(NCORD) was Tuesday held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner(DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo here at the Meeting Hall of the DC Office to review the ongoing anti-drug measures and efforts to curb drug abuse and and drug trafficking in the district.


Senior Superintendent of Police(SSP), Sandeep Chakravarthy was also present in the meeting.
At the outset, the meeting conducted a comprehensive review of inter-agency coordination to combat drug abuse, including identification of drug hotspots, confiscation of vehicles under NDPS and ongoing anti-drug IEC activities, particularly in educational institutions to sensitize youth about the illicit effects of narcotics.


The meeting was informed that, as per the directions of the NCORD Committee, the District Administration in coordination with the Police and other stakeholder departments, has launched a massive crackdown on drug peddlers and drug trafficking.


Acting firmly against offenders, the driving licences of 73 accused involved in narcotics cases have been disqualified. In addition, 56 vehicles have been blacklisted by the Regional Transport Office, Kashmir under the NDPS Act.
Addressing the meeting, the DC appreciated the Transport Department and other stakeholders for strengthening administrative controls by suspending licences and blacklisting vehicles involved in NDPS cases, thereby disrupting the logistical support of drug peddlers. He reiterated that driving licences and vehicle registrations are privileges not rights and that anyone found misusing them for drug-related offences will face strict action without any leniency.


The DC emphasized that such measures will continue across to curb the drug menace in the district and break the supply chain of narcotics trade. He underlined the administration’s firm resolve to protect society, especially the youth, from the devastating impact of drugs.
SSP Srinagar, in his remarks, stated that the action against drugs shall continue and the message of zero tolerance against drug crimes is loud and clear. He stated that drug peddlers will face criminal prosecution, disqualification of licences, blacklisting of vehicles and other punishments as warranted under law.


On the occasion, the meeting decided to further strengthen coordination among stakeholder departments and continue focused enforcement, preventive awareness, and rehabilitation measures to effectively combat the drug menace in Srinagar district.


The meeting was attended by Regional Transport Officer, Kashmir, Qazi Irfan, Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Mir Imtiyaz Ul Aziz, Dy Superintendent of Police, Syed Sleeth Shah, Programme Officer, ICDS, SDM West Irfan Bahadur, SDM East, Zubair Ahmad, District Social Welfare Officer, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, Assistant Labour Commissioner, Adnan Tariq, Chief Medical Officer, Dr Tahir Sajad and Officers of Excise, Drug Control Organization, YS&S, Heads of ATFs and other concerned.
