Srinagar, Jan 4: The Directorate of Health Services Kashmir has ordered the posting of 50 doctors across various health institutions in the Valley with immediate effect, aiming to strengthen administration and improve patient care.

According to an official order issued by the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir, the doctors who were earlier awaiting posting have now been assigned to different community health centres, sub-district hospitals, district hospitals, and emergency health facilities across multiple districts of Kashmir.

The order states that the postings have been made in the interest of administration and better patient care, and all concerned doctors have been directed to assume charge at their respective places of posting without delay.

The development comes a day after the news agency Kashmir News Trust reported that around 70 doctors were awaiting posting without pay for months, causing professional hardship and affecting healthcare delivery in several areas. The issue had triggered concern among medical circles, with demands for immediate deployment and release of salaries.

With the latest order, health officials said the postings are expected to partially address staff shortages in peripheral health institutions and ease the burden on existing medical staff. However, it remains to be seen whether the remaining doctors awaiting posting will also be accommodated in the coming days.

The doctors have been posted against various specialisations including medicine, paediatrics, gynaecology, anaesthesia, radiology and other disciplines to meet critical healthcare needs at district and sub district levels.

Health officials said further administrative steps are under consideration to streamline postings and ensure timely remuneration to doctors awaiting adjustment. [KNT]
