Drug Peddler Arrested in Mattan; 174 Grams Charas Recovered

Anantnag, May 03 :Continuing its drive against drug trafficking, Anantnag Police arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband during routine naka checking in the Mattan area on Sunday.

According to officials, a police party from Police Station Mattan was conducting naka checking near Gas Agency Mattan when they noticed a suspicious individual carrying a bag and moving from Mattan towards Bumzoo via KP Road. On seeing the police, the individual attempted to flee but was swiftly apprehended by the alert police team.

During the search, approximately 174 grams of charas (powder-like substance) was recovered from a polythene bag in his possession.

The accused has been identified as Adnan Shabir Bhat, son of Shabir Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Pranbhawn, Mattan.

In this connection, a case FIR No. 49/2026 has been registered at Police Station Mattan under relevant sections of law, and further investigation has been initiated.

Police further revealed that the accused was previously involved in FIR No. 12/2023 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Aishmuqam.

Anantnag Police have reiterated their commitment to combating the menace of drug abuse and urged the public to cooperate by sharing any information related to drug trafficking.(KNC)
