Searches Under PMLA Target Cross-Border Drug Smuggling Network Linked to Terror Financing; Incriminating Documents, Bank Records Seized

Srinagar, July 24: The Directorate of Enforcement (ED), Jammu Sub Zonal Office, has conducted extensive search operations at nine locations across Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir, including areas near the Line of Control (LoC), in connection with an ongoing money laundering investigation linked to narco-terror funding.

The searches were carried out on July 23, 2026, under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, based on cases registered by the Jammu and Kashmir Police and Punjab Police.

According to an official press release, the investigation has unearthed a well-organised and multi-layered narco-terror funding network operating between Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir. The network allegedly involved Punjab-based handlers and Kashmir-based operatives engaged in smuggling heroin from across the border and routing the proceeds towards terror-related activities.

The ED stated that the searches led to the recovery and seizure of several incriminating documents, bank account records and other evidence relevant to the investigation.

In a significant financial action, the agency also froze multiple bank accounts containing approximately ₹49.9 lakh, suspected to be linked to the proceeds of crime generated through the illegal narcotics trade.

The investigation has also revealed suspicious banking transactions, including high-value cash deposits in the accounts of individuals allegedly associated with the network. Officials said the searches specifically targeted source-side logistics and local facilitators connected with the cross-border narcotics supply chain.

The ED reiterated that the proceeds generated from heroin smuggling were allegedly used for terror financing, highlighting the serious national security implications of the case.

The agency said that further investigation is underway to identify additional links in the narco-terror network and trace the financial trail of the illicit proceeds.(KNC)
